 Instructions for PC - Windows®
95, Windows® 98, Windows® NT, Windows® 2000, Windows® ME, or
Windows XP
Please print these instructions before beginning so you
can easily refer to them while going through the Cisco 675
External Modem download processes. If you do not have a
printer, you may save these instructions and open them on your
desktop so that you can follow along as you complete the
installation processes. Products and services are trademarks
of their respective companies.
Upgrading your Cisco 675 External Modem to the latest
software release involves the following four processes:
- Downloading the Cisco 675 External Modem CBOS v2.4.6 to
your hard drive
- Downloading Commander software v1.4.2 to your hard
drive
- Upgrading your existing Cisco 675 External Modem
operating system to the CBOS v2.4.6
- Installing the Commander software v1.4.2
Process 1 - Downloading the Cisco 675 External Modem
CBOS operating system (version 2.4.6) to your hard drive
STEP 1
Click
here to download CBOS v2.4.6 for your Cisco 675. Select
SAVE THIS PROGRAM TO DISK, and then select OK. Please save
this file in the C:/temp directory.
STEP 2
Double click on the 675cbos2.4.6.exe file you saved in the
previous step.
STEP 3
Change the UNZIP TO FOLDER to C:/temp. Then, click UNZIP.
STEP 4
On the window displayed in Step 3, click CLOSE.
Process 2 - Downloading Commander v1.4.2 to your hard
drive
Commander v1.4.2 software is required.
STEP 1
Click
here to download Commander 1.4.2 for your Cisco 675.
Select SAVE THIS PROGRAM TO DISK, then, select OK. Please save
this file in the C:/temp directory.
STEP 2
Double click on the comv1.4.2.exe file you saved in the
previous step.
STEP 3
Change the UNZIP TO FOLDER to C:/temp. Then, click UNZIP.
STEP 4
On the window displayed in Step 3, click CLOSE.
Process 3 - Upgrading your existing Cisco 675 External
Modem operating system to CBOS v2.4.6. It consists of 2
sub-processes: Connecting to your Cisco 675, and Download the
new CBOS 2.4.6 to your Cisco 675.
Sub-Process 1 - Connecting to your Cisco 675
STEP 1
In this step, you will be
performing the physical connections for your modem to enable
you to configure your modem, by connecting the modem
wires.

Connect your Cisco 675 to your PC. Ensure
that the yellow cable is connected to the Ethernet port on
your PC and to the "ENET" port on the back of the Cisco 675.

Connect the blue or gray management cable
(this cable was shipped with the original packing material) to
a "COM" port on your PC to the "MGMT" port on the back of the
Cisco 675.
NOTE: A "COM" port is a
communications port used to connect external devices, such as
your modem to the PC, most COM ports are identified by a
number on the back of your PC. The following picture is an
example of COM port on a PC.

NOTE 1: Identify the PC COM Port
number the blue or gray management cable is installed on. You
will need this information for the next step.
Connect
the modem power cable and ensure the green power light is on.

If you lost your

Inform the Qwest technical
support person you need to open an RMA for a new blue
management cable.
STEP 2
To set up your
computer to connect to your modem, the software program you
will be using to connect to your modem will be HyperTerminal®.
To access HyperTerminal in Windows® 95/98/ME, perform
the following.
Click START on your Windows® desktop
and select PROGRAMS. Then, select ACCESSORIES and then, select
HYPERTERMINAL. Click on the HyperTerminal icon to launch
HyperTerminal.

Windows 2000 users select START,
PROGRAMS, then select ACCESSORIES, then select COMMUNICATIONS,
and then select HYPERTERMINAL.
NOTE for Windows® 98 users: Loading Windows® 98 does
not automatically load HyperTerminal. If you cannot find a
HyperTerminal folder, load HyperTerminal from your Windows® 98
compact disk.
STEP 3
Enter "Cisco 675" as a connection name and select an icon.
Then, select OK.
STEP 4
In the CONNECT USING field, select the COM port you
connected the blue cable to and noted in STEP 1. Then, select
OK.
STEP 5
In the Properties window, please set the port settings as
follows.
- Bit per second: 38400
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 1
- Flow control: None
Then, select OK.
STEP 6
Press Enter to initiate the session in HyperTerminal. If
the session does not initiate, press Enter again. A CBOS
prompt will appear as follows:
User Access Verification Password:

STEP 7
If you set an executive password, please type it and press
Enter. If you have not set an executive password, please press
Enter to access the Cisco 675 and the following prompt will
appear.
cbos>

NOTE: The Cisco 675 is default set to have no
password. Only if you previously provisioned an executive
password will you need a password to enter the Cisco 675.
Qwest recommends setting an executive password for security
purposes.

STEP 8
Type "enable" at the cbos prompt. Then, press
Enter.
cbos> enable

STEP 9
At the Password prompt, press Enter. The following prompt
will appear:
cbos#
NOTE: You are now in the provisioning mode and ready
to download CBOS version 2.4.6 to your Cisco 675.
Sub-Process 2 - Download the new CBOS 2.4.6 to your
Cisco 675
WARNING!!!! It is crucial to the download process
that it not be interrupted at any time. In fact, you could
render your Cisco 675 useless if the download process is
interrupted. Qwest assumes no liability if the download
process is not successful.
STEP 1
At the "cbos#" prompt, type the following command:
set download code
STEP 2
As the C's are being displayed on the screen, select the
following from the HyperTerminal option bar across the top of
the program:
Transfer>Send File
STEP 3
Click the BROWSE button.
STEP 4
Highlight the nsrouterc6752.4.6.bin file you previously
saved in Process 1, Step 3 to the C:/temp directory. Then,
select OPEN.
STEP 5
Select Xmodem in the PROTOCOL field. Then, select SEND.
WARNING!!!! It is extremely important that the download
is not interrupted while CBOS version 2.4.6 is being
transferred to your Cisco 675. If interrupted, you could
render your Cisco 675 useless.
This process will take about 6 minutes. Please, do not
continue until the download screen closes and you are prompted
in HyperTerminal to press Enter.
STEP 6
Exit out of HyperTerminal. Select YES, I WANT TO
DISCONNECT.
Process 4 - Installing the Commander software v1.4.2
STEP 1
Double click on the SETUP file to launch the commander
installation wizard. This file is located in the C:/temp file
folder you saved earlier in the commander download
instructions. The setup file with a PC as an icon, is the
correct setup.exe file for this operation.
NOTE: If you receive a "Warning" window after
selecting the "setup.exe" file, you need to update your
Microsoft operating system. If you did not receive the
"Warning" message, please go to STEP 2. The instructions to
install the Microsoft Updates are shown below. Please make
note of the file listed in the "Warning" window. You will need
the file to update your system.
- To install the Microsoft Updates, create a folder on
your hard drive. (The root directory is recommended for your
convenience).
- Select the hyperlink named "Microsoft
Updates" and save it to your new folder located on your
hard drive. This file is Winzip compressed. Use Winzip or
Aladdin™ Expander™ to decompress the file. If you need
Aladdin Expander, you can download it free here
or if you need Winzip you can download a trial copy here.
- Double click on the file you noted when you received the
"Warning" window.
- Your Microsoft Updates process in now complete. Locate
the "setup.exe" file located in the C:/temp
folder.
STEP 2
Select NEXT to continue with the Cisco Commander
installation process.
STEP 3
Select NEXT.
STEP 4
Select START 67x COMMANDER and PLACE 67x COMMANDER IN
STARTUP FOLDER. Then, select FINISH.
STEP 5
Select CBOS 2.4.6 CAP 675 under DEVICE VERSION. Then,
select OK.
STEP 6
If you have provisioned an executive password, please enter
it in the password field. If no executive password has been
provisioned, please leave the password field blank. Then,
select OK.
STEP 7
Double click the Commander icon in the system tray. In the
example below, the icon is highlighted in green. It may also
be highlighted in blue if your modem has trained.
NOTE: The system tray is the box at the bottom right
corner of your screen, which contains the time of day.
STEP 8
For users who are trained, congratulations. You are now
finished with the installation process and ready to use your
DSL service.
If you are not currently trained, click on OPEN CONNECTION.
Congratulations! You've completed your Cisco 675 External
Modem download and upgrade as well as the Commander software
